Korean Language Program

The Korean Language Program aims to promote the Korean language and culture to the world based on the founding spirit of ‘Unity, Freedom, and Love’ of our university. Our Korean language education program provides the best learning conditions for language students through a faculty with excellent teaching capabilities and qualities, professional administrative staff supporting the realization of smooth education, clean and pleasant state-of-the-art facilities, and a practical and systematic curriculum.

Features

The Korean Language Program operates on a quarter system throughout the year (spring, summer, fall, winter) and levels are finely divided into beginner (Level 1), elementary (Level 2), intermediate (Levels 3-4), advanced (Levels 5-6), and TOPIK preparation classes to provide educational guidance tailored to students’ abilities. A homeroom teacher system has been introduced to allow foreign students to learn Korean in a short period of time by strictly managing and supervising attendance and grades.

정규 한국어 교육과정은 1년 4학기제(봄, 여름, 가을, 겨울)로 진행되고 있으며, 입문(1급), 초급(2급),  중급(3~4급), 고급(5~6급), 토픽실전반으로 레벨을 세분화하여 학생들의 수준에 맞는 학습지도를 하고 있습니다.  담임 강사제도를 도입하여 외국인 유학생들이 단시일 내에 한국어를 배울 수 있도록  출결 및 성적을 철저하게 관리 감독하고 있습니다.

Education

  • Class Capacity: Approximately 20 students per class (수업정원: 학급별 20명 내외)
  • Courses Offered: Levels 1-6, TOPIK Intensive Course (수업과정: 1~6급, 토픽실전반)
  • Class Hours: 10 weeks per semester, 5 days a week (Monday to Friday), 4 hours per day (total 200 hours)
    (수업시수: 학기당 10주, 주5일(월~금),   1일 4시간 수업(총 200시간))
  • Class Times: Levels 1-2 from 14:00 to 18:00, Levels 3-6 from 09:00 to 13:00
    (수업시간: 1~2급 14:00 ~ 18:00, 3~6급 09:00 ~ 13:00)
  • Language of Instruction: Korean (수강언어: 한국어)
  • Class Assignment: Online placement test (written/speaking) two weeks before the start of the course

Events and Activities

  • Orientation: Guidance on the Korean language course, life in Korea, and matters of attention for language study visa
    (오리엔테이션: 한국어과정, 한국생활 및 어학연수 비자 유의사항 안내)
  • Cultural Experience Activities: Various cultural experience events conducted. (once per semester, free of charge)
    (문화체험활동: 다양한 문화체험 행사 진행, 학기당 1회, 참가비 무료)
  • Graduation Ceremony: Issuance of certificate (Gangseo University Korean Language Level Completion Certificate), awards for academic excellence and perfect attendance (수료식: 수료증, 성적 우수상 및 개근상 수여)
  • Commendable Students: Selection and awarding of exemplary students from each class during the semester
  • Supplementary Classes: Group classes provided for Level 1-2 students who find the lessons challenging

Admission Eligibility

  • A high school diploma (if a language study visa is needed)
    (고등학교 졸업 이상의 학력 소지자(어학연수비자 필요한 경우))
  • Individuals who have not exceeded 2 years since their last educational graduation
    (최종학력 졸업한지 2년을 경과하지 않은 자)
  • If it has been more than 2 years since graduation, submit proof of the gap period (employment/career certificates, language study certificates, etc.)
    (최종학력 졸업 2년 초과한 경우 공백기간 소명자료 제출)
